Electric power isn’t only about being more environmentally conscious; it also means accelerating faster, and that applies to this Smart. While the Smart used to be quite cheap but rather slow, its ForSpeed variant now achieves what no other Smart has managed: under 6 seconds to reach 100 km/h, roughly half the time it took before.

The ForSpeed (a fresh twist on the ForTwo name) is said to offer a range of around 130 kilometres, ideal for ¿zipping? around urban areas. It also features solar panels that can help recharge accessories, such as those powered by the car’s electrical system or a mobile phone.

Among other quirks, there is a separate cover for the passenger seat, for when there’s no choice but to drive in the rain. Furthermore, there are no door handles; the doors must be opened from the inside. Inside, we find a better-designed dashboard with the central instrument, common to the Smart models, a dedicated compartment for a phone, and a green storage tray.

We shouldn’t get our hopes up for this Smart, as it will apparently be the first and last prototype of its kind we see, since there are no production plans, and it can be filed under Geneva curiosities.
