The Subaru Outback Autogas arrives in Spain

Subaru has brought to Spain its LPG-powered version of the Outback, a model that has been in high demand across the rest of Europe and offers the advantages of using gas as a fuel.

Subaru has launched in Spain its offering dedicated to running on autogas; in fact, we were one of the first media outlets to test it, and our impressions were good. The advantages inherent in using this fuel are many, even compared with diesel engines, and that is what drove the Japanese brand to bring the Subaru Outback LPG to Spain.

This 2.5 Bi-fuel model will produce 167 CV and comes with either a 6-speed manual or automatic gearbox. The first thing Subaru pointed out is the savings difference compared with the diesel version, which is around 30%, no small matter when it comes to easing our battered household economies.

Of course, the Subaru Outback Bi-fuel will carry a surcharge, although we do not consider it excessive. Paying just over 2,500 euros extra for a vehicle that is cheaper to refuel than a diesel is not something that would count against this Outback. It should be noted that the autogas network has expanded in Spain and that by the end of 2012 there would be some 300 stations available, which undoubtedly influenced Subaru’s decision to bring this Outback to market.

That said, instead of pursuing a policy focused on electric cars, which so far have not achieved much, why not promote a sufficiently large autogas network and the massive use of this fuel in Spain? After all, the world’s gas reserves are enormous, it is a cheap fuel, it is less polluting and it is safe. What are we waiting for, gentlemen?
