The successor to the Jaguar X-type will arrive in 2015

Engineers at Jaguar are working flat out on a new X-type, that is, a mid-size front-wheel-drive saloon. It will serve to win sales in India and China, as well as in the American market. It will go on sale in 2015 and is likely to be built in the UK and India.
According to sources consulted by Autocar in India, the new model will measure 4.5 metres long and will be powered by 3-cylinder engines (1.5 litres) and 4-cylinder engines (1.8 and 2.0 litre turbocharged, in both diesel and petrol). 8- and 9-speed automatic gearboxes also appear set to be included in the range.
The smallest of the Jaguar range will not, however, be a cheap model. Estimates put its base price at around €24,000. Nevertheless, it will rival other models of similar price, such as the upcoming Audi A3 saloon or the Mercedes A-Class saloon, both of which, like the Jaguar, are aimed at China, India and the United States.
There are no clues yet about the new car’s design direction, although it is thought it will not continue the advanced lines set by the XF and XJ. Aerodynamics will be an essential point in its design, while always maintaining the premium look that justifies its price. The interior will be more modern than anything Jaguar has done so far, with particular emphasis on large LED screens and finishes on a par with Audi.
