The Tesla Model 3 once again shines in a crash test

The latest model from Elon Musk’s company, the Tesla Model 3, has been put to the test in another crash test, where it has proven to be a true benchmark.

The Tesla Model 3 faced the crash test of the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) successfully, achieving the highest score the organization awards to vehicles in terms of safety.

The latest model to reach the market from Elon Musk’s company had its exam alongside two other very diligent students: the Audi e-tron that we recently road-tested and the Hyundai Nexo, that is, alongside another electric car and one powered by a fuel cell.

The IIHS research director, David Zuby, stated in a press release: “Vehicles with alternative propulsion systems have become increasingly important. However, there is no need to trade safety for a smaller carbon footprint when buying a new vehicle.”

The Tesla Model 3 earned the “good” rating, which is to say, the highest the organization awards. The smallest member of the Tesla family achieved this score after facing various crash tests to verify the safety it offers its occupants.

There was only one crash test in which the Tesla did not achieve the top score: the driver-side small overlap front test. In it, the IIHS found a slight risk of injury to the lower leg of the driver. However, this was not enough to prevent it from earning the excellent rating.

The IIHS rates the cars in its tests on a four-level safety scale: good, acceptable, marginal, or poor. Both the Audi e-tron and the Hyundai Nexo achieved the same success as the Tesla Model 3.

The Tesla Model 3 has proven to be a leader in crash testing

Elon Musk has been attacked on several occasions over the safety of his cars, due to cases such as the terrible accident of a Tesla Model 3 in Florida with Autopilot engaged. However, the crash tests of the Tesla Model 3 have ended up proving Musk right, since the NHTSA stated in October 2018 that the Tesla Model 3 was the safest car that had come through its facilities, and it earned the five stars from Euro NCAP.

However, the American visionary does not leave anything to chance, which is why he has already taken to court each of the unjustified attacks his cars have suffered. Despite this, the eccentricities and arrogance of the CEO of Tesla are also well known.

In 2013, when the Tesla Model S underwent its first crash test with the NHTSA, Musk claimed his car had achieved 5.4 stars, while the maximum score is 5 stars. Thanks to this kind of thing, Elon Musk has managed to earn the same reputation as his cars: you either love them or you hate them.
