The Tesla Model Y does not disappoint in the Euro NCAP tests
The Tesla Model Y takes center stage in the new edition of the Euro NCAP tests.

The safety body Euro NCAP has published its fifth round of ratings. The highly anticipated Tesla Model Y did not disappoint and achieved five safety stars. Meanwhile, the fully electric Genesis GV60 also earned five stars. The organisation also tested the ORA Funky Cat, the WEY Cofee 01 and the Kia Niro.
The Tesla Model Y, built at the Gigafactory in Berlin, scored 97% for Adult Occupant Protection and an almost perfect 98% for Safety Assist. In Euro NCAP’s track tests, the Model Y’s Vision system, which relies on just one camera, performs remarkably well at avoiding collisions with other cars, cyclists and pedestrians.
Chinese manufacturers have already tried to enter the European market and, in the past, have had mixed results in safety tests. Following in the footsteps of NIO, Lynk & Co and MG, Great Wall Motor shows that it can build cars on a par with the best Europe has to offer, as the electric ORA Funky Cat and the WEY Coffee 1 have both earned five stars.
Very good results from the tests

Euro NCAP Secretary General Michiel van Ratingen said, “We have seen good results from some Chinese manufacturers in the past, but also some very poor ones. This year, Euro NCAP will test more Chinese cars than ever before, and Great Wall really sets the standard for others to follow. I also congratulate Tesla on a truly outstanding score that breaks the Model Y’s record. Tesla has shown that nothing but the best is good enough for them, and we hope they continue to aspire to that goal in the future.”
Korean brands have also performed well in this round of testing. The electric Genesis GV60 SUV earns a five-star rating, although there is some room for improvement in its protection of vulnerable road users. And the Kia Niro earns four stars when fitted with standard equipment, which includes a forward-facing camera vision system. If you want top-level safety, you must pay a supplement for the “DriveWise” safety package, which adds a radar to the sensor suite.

The third generation of the Hyundai i20 shares the four-star rating of the 2021 Bayon, to which it is closely related. And the new electric variants of the existing Stellantis models — the Citroën ë-Berlingo, the Opel Combo e-Life and the Peugeot e-Rifter — join the 2018 results of the combustion-engined versions.
