The Tesla Model Y L is the long-wheelbase version of the crossover with six seats that you will find in China

The Tesla models have already enjoyed several updates that have turned the brand’s vehicles into very practical cars. One of the most important markets for Tesla is China, so it is no surprise that the models sold in this country are the first to experience the changes that improve their features. The latest of these changes has been enjoyed by the Model Y, which has seen an increase in its wheelbase.

The new Tesla Model Y L is the version with a longer wheelbase that will begin to be sold in China. Thanks to this greater wheelbase, a third row of seats has been added, so capacity increases to six seats. But this is not the only change enjoyed by this new version of the model.

A longer Model Y with changes

The Tesla Model Y L offers a recognizable image: you can tell it is this model, but it has significant changes. Its length is 4,976 millimeters, while it measures 2,129 millimeters in width. Its height is 1,668 millimeters. This makes the Model Y L 179 millimeters longer than the standard model and 44 millimeters taller.

The bodywork features longer rear doors, while the wheels are 19 inches in size and the rear spoiler is slightly larger. Inside, in addition to the extra seats, we find a larger multimedia screen. It goes from 15.4 inches up to 16 inches. At the rear, an eight-inch screen has been installed to serve the passengers.

In the second row, the seats are captain-style, more comfortable, and feature heating and ventilation. They also have armrests and can be folded thanks to an electric motor. The two seats in the third row can also be folded, which keeps the boot capacity and can even increase it considerably.

The storage space reaches 2,539 litres, which means 401 litres more than the standard model. A glass panoramic roof has also been added, and the windows use acoustic glass to keep noise levels very low.

Powertrain

Tesla has not disclosed the details of the powertrain of this Model Y variant, but it has confirmed that it will have two motors and a battery offering a range of 751 kilometres on the CLTC cycle. It can accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in 4.5 seconds, about 0.2 seconds more than the standard version.

The car’s weight increases by 96 kg, so it reaches 2,088 kg. This has led to improved suspensions to achieve greater stability in corners and on difficult terrain. The price of this version is only 339,000 yuan, which is about 40,450 euros, that is, about 3,050 euros more than the standard model. It comes with the usual driver assistance systems and two optional assistance packages that improve safety at the wheel.
