The Toyota GT86 "gets bold" with the 860 special edition
Toyota is launching an exclusive edition of the GT86 with several design upgrades. Only 860 units of this exclusive version will be produced.
A sports car like the Toyota GT86 will always be a product aimed at the most enthusiastic drivers. It is a car made for a very specific audience, and so it will never be a genuine bestseller the way an SUV can be. Nevertheless, the version of this model known as the Scion FR-S has seen its sales drop considerably over the past year. For this reason, Toyota has set to work to give this sports car one last boost (before it is replaced by the new generation) and will sell the 860 special edition on the American market.

One might think the name of this special version comes from the model’s own designation (GT86) but with an extra zero. However, the figure 860 also refers to the number of units that will be produced of this model. This special edition receives a series of cosmetic upgrades that increase its appeal over the standard Toyota GT86. The body colours available for this model are white or an exclusive orange shade. It features eye-catching racing stripes in the purest style of the Dodge Viper, as well as an aggressive rear spoiler and 17-inch black alloy wheels.

The interior also gets an extra touch of sportiness with black leather upholstery and orange stitching. Other notable features include the engine start/stop button, dual-zone automatic climate control, heated seats, and a digitised instrument cluster. This model comes with the usual button that deactivates all safety aids and assistance systems, plus an additional one that modifies those settings to optimise driving on a track.

The 860 edition of the Toyota GT86 goes on sale at the end of the month in the USA. It will cost $30,400 for the manual version and $30,760 for the automatic variant. For now, Toyota has not announced whether it will sell this model in other markets such as Europe.
