The Toyota Prius becomes the best-selling car in California

The Toyota Prius is a mass idol in California, much like a player for the San Francisco 49ers in the NFL. We already knew it was one of the most popular cars in this U.S. state, but today we have learned that it is also the best-selling, thanks to its four variants.
If we add up all the sales of the Prius – the standard model (Liftback), the C, the V and the Plug-in – in the first nine months of 2012, we arrive at the figure of 46,380 units, according to figures from the California News Car Dealers Association. Thanks to these sales, the Prius has gone from being the fourth best-selling car in 2011 to being the one that has left dealerships the most in the most populous state in the USA. By the way, in California a quarter of all cars sold in North America were sold.
Much of the credit goes to the rise in petrol prices. As for the national level, according to Bloomberg, the Prius ranks seventh among the best-selling vehicles. Another great piece of news for the development of hybrids in the USA.
The third-place worldwide
In Japan, home of Toyota, the Prius has been the best-selling car in recent years, although the Honda Fit has been gradually catching up. Worldwide, it is the third best-selling in the first quarter of 2012, just behind the Toyota Corolla and the Ford Focus.
