The Toyota RAV4 surpasses 10 million units sold worldwide
Toyota has surpassed the milestone of 10 million units sold of the Toyota RAV4 across the five generations of this model, introduced in 1994.
Following the Toyota Land Cruiser, which reached this milestone in the summer of last year, it is now the Toyota RAV4 that joins the Japanese brand’s models surpassing 10 million units sold over their entire commercial life.
The Toyota RAV4 reached this figure last February, after 26 years on the market since the first generation of the model appeared in 1994. In Europe, cumulative sales exceed 2 million units.

Last year alone, nearly one million units of the Toyota RAV4 were sold worldwide, of which 133,000 were in the European market, making 2019 the best-selling year for the popular Japanese SUV. This placed the RAV4 as the best-selling SUV in the world in 2019, and earned it no less than fourth place among the best-selling passenger cars.
Toyota RAV4: a sales success in Spain too
In Spain, Toyota has already sold more than 113,000 units of the RAV4. Of this figure, over the last four years around 34,000 are of the RAV4 Hybrid version, which has been the only variant available since 2019. Just last year, coinciding with the launch of the model’s fifth generation, the Toyota RAV4 reached its all-time sales high in our market, surpassing 11,000 units.

The arrival of the first Toyota RAV4 in 1994 marked the birth of the SUV or crossover segment. It was a 4×4 that proposed a new concept: a recreational, practical and fun-to-drive vehicle both on and off the asphalt.

The first version with hybrid powertrain arrived alongside the fourth-generation restyling in 2015. Here you can read the road test of the first Toyota RAV4 Hybrid. During 2020, the current Toyota RAV4 fifth generation will complete its range with the first plug-in hybrid RAV4.
