The Toyota Supra could offer a manual transmission as an option

A conversation with a Toyota representative leaked on a forum suggests that the reinterpretation of the Japanese sports car could offer a manual gearbox.

A few weeks ago, the worst nightmares of the most enthusiastic fans seemed to be coming true: the new Toyota Supra would only be offered with an automatic gearbox. Now, however, a conversation with a Toyota representative that has been leaked on a forum suggests exactly the opposite.

The conversation in question was published on the iH8Mud forum, and apparently reveals several details about the new Toyota Supra from an important brand representative named “Dave”. Apparently, this representative developed several models for the Japanese brand in the past.

A brand representative claims the model will hit the market in 2019 with an optional manual gearbox. These were the representative’s statements about the Toyota: “the car will be launched in 2019 and will have a manual gearbox as an option. Considering that the other car in our range aimed at an enthusiast audience – the GT86 – is offered with a manual gearbox, it makes sense that the Supra also has a similar gearbox, especially if the brand wants to back up its intention not to build any more boring vehicles.”

The Toyota representative also spoke about other aspects of the car’s mechanics and the two engines it will offer when it reaches the market. According to “Dave”, the new Supra will offer two engines, and one of them will not be the famous 3.0-litre twin-turbo inline six-cylinder engine made by BMW, a unit that had been considered as an option for the Japanese model. Furthermore, it seems that the famous sports car will have a hybrid propulsion system, although perhaps not at the start of production.

Toyota has not confirmed that the information published on the iH8Mud forum is accurate, so for now we cannot get carried away. We assume that the Japanese brand will begin to make some model details official shortly; until then, we will dream of a manual Toyota Supra.
