The Unified Association of Civil Guards denounces the difficulties faced by Traffic agents during their service

The lack of resources and the shortcomings in the maintenance of others are undermining the operational capacity of the Traffic Civil Guard, according to an association of agents

As the return phase of the Special Summer 2020 Operation begins, several groups that safeguard the quality of the duties performed by the agents of the Civil Guard express the situation of their colleagues in the Traffic Civil Guard Unit.

Thus, the Unified Association of Civil Guards voices its concern over the context in which the agents provide their services, particularly for those guards assigned from 28 to 31 August who will be working during this mass return phase.

According to the text, agents have been waiting for a resolution to extreme issues that guarantee their safety, such as the lack of airbag vests, individual bulletproof vests, and other specific items like anti-theft pistol holsters.

In addition to the lack of this essential equipment for routine duties, the condition of the vehicle fleet of the Traffic Civil Guard Unit is also mentioned, which, according to the published document, is in a deficient state.

They warn of an indeterminate number of motorcycles and cars out of service, pending repairs for the breakdowns they have suffered or the maintenance inspections that should be carried out, which have left these working tools of the guards in an indefinite state of inactivity.

Return operation, with less operational capacity than ideal

The association’s claims are justified not only from the agents’ point of view but also from the perspective of their direct commitment to citizens. According to AUGC, the situation being experienced directly affects the safety of citizens, as the material resources of the Traffic Unit have been decimated.

This situation becomes especially critical on very specific dates, such as the various days set in the calendars of the Directorate-General of Traffic corresponding to the phases of special operations, where the return from summer holidays, from 28 to 31 August, accounts for one of the largest annual traffic flows. The lack of resources means limiting available personnel and equipment and, therefore, diminishes the operational capacity to ensure road safety.

Given the shortcomings described, the association grouping agents of the Civil Guard warns that the Traffic Unit is going through the worst moment in its history since its creation in 1969.
