The upcoming Mercedes-Benz GLA greets us from the shadows

Mercedes-Benz is already revving its engines to present the new GLA, a model that inherits all of the brand’s technology and will debut on December 11.

Mercedes-Benz is renewing its model range at a frenetic pace, which is steeped in the most cutting-edge technology. First came the A-Class, a compact that became a real marvel of evolution thanks to its advanced cabin. That legacy passed on to the CLA and the B-Class, two models that welcomed a new member that will be crucial for the German firm to stay on track: the GLB. However, Mercedes has room for the renewal of one of its most important SUVs, the GLA, a model that greets us in teaser form.

Under normal circumstances it would be difficult for us to guess the direction the new GLA will take, but considering that it will share numerous components with the A-Class as in the past, we can anticipate much of its novelties. After all, the German compact allows us to predict the physique and mechanics of the German SUV.

Visually, we can expect a large grille governed by the star alongside two slim LED headlights. The same patterns will be found at the rear, where elongated, narrow taillights will add a dose of style to the whole along with a certain sporty touch. Not surprisingly, it is in the cabin where we will notice the most novelties.

And indeed, the interior of the new Mercedes GLA will leave behind the already outdated numeric console to make way for a dashboard dominated by two large screens capable of housing both the instrument cluster and the infotainment system. The central console will feature a trackpad that will allow users to navigate through the different menus, although this task will also be possible thanks to the touch function of the screen.

In addition, the renewed MBUX system will also be installed, which includes a personal assistant capable of fulfilling our requests on command with “Hey, Mercedes!”. On the mechanical side, the powertrain will consist of both diesel and petrol engines producing between 116 CV and 224 CV. Later on, the AMG 35 and AMG 45s variants will join alongside a plug-in hybrid version.

It will be on December 11 when the star firm presents the new GLA for the first time, a model that promises to continue the legacy of its predecessor. In this way, Mercedes-Benz will have its entire compact offensive renewed and ready to keep fighting in this arduous war so frequented by its rival brands.
