The update of the Kia Sportage arrives at the height of SUV fever

If there is one thing Kia has shown, it is its ability to adapt to market trends. When minivans reigned supreme, they bet on high-capacity cargo vehicles. Now that SUVs are in fashion, it is inevitable that one of their key models would get a facelift.

That is why the restyling of the Kia Sportage was something we were expecting. And it is at the second big event of the American automotive calendar where it has been unveiled for the first time.

Exterior update of the Kia Sportage

Under the spotlights and flashes of the Chicago Auto Show comes the update of the Kia Sportage. Marketed as the Kia Sportage 2020, the popular SUV receives a series of improvements, both standard and optional, such as new LED-technology headlights with turn signals, redesigned fog lights and LED fog lamps.

Also in terms of styling and dynamics, this 2019 SUV features a new front grille, bumpers with improved air channeling, a redesigned rear bumper and new 17, 18 and 19-inch alloy wheels.

It also includes subtle changes, such as the new design of the rear exhaust section or the new circular-cut rear brake light. On top of all this, there is the option to choose a new metallic gray body colour, Steel Grey.

It is worth highlighting that, alongside the usual trim levels LX, EX and SX, the Kia also adds the sportiest one, marketed with the letter S.

The novelties also extend to the cabin of the Kia Sportage

But the modifications and improvements are not limited to its exterior appearance. In the cabin of the Kia Sportage there are also new seats called Sofino upholstered in synthetic leather, a redesigned steering wheel, the 8-inch touchscreen with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto connectivity, or the option of wireless smartphone charging thanks to the charging tray.

Regarding driver assistance and safety systems, the update of the Kia Sportage features lane keeping assist, intelligent cruise control, Start & Stop and front collision warning with pedestrian detection.

The first units of this restyled Kia Sportage will arrive in the United States in spring.
