The Vauxhall Mokka-e has been updated, but the previous version is now offered at a lower price and is called Griffin.

The Vauxhall Mokka-e Griffin is the entry-level version of the range which, despite having been updated, keeps the characteristics of the previous model.

Not long ago, the Vauxhall Mokka-e received an update to improve some of its features. Among these, the larger-capacity battery and a motor offering more power than it had at that time stand out. But since these improvements have pushed the price up considerably, the brand’s sister company Opel has worked to launch a model that sits below the renewed Mokka-e.

This variant is going to be called Vauxhall Mokka-e Griffin and costs around £7,500 less than the entry-level version of the model. However, this simpler variant has a bit of a catch. The Vauxhall Mokka-e Griffin uses a 50 kWh battery, which allows it to travel a range of up to 336 kilometres, measured under the WLTP homologation cycle.

The engine’s power has also changed compared with the update. Or rather, we could say that it has not enjoyed the power increase that can be enjoyed in the new British Mokka-e. The 136 CV that its electric motor delivers are the same as it offered before the model was improved.

So both the battery and the electric motor are the same as the model had before the model update. We would therefore be talking about a brand strategy of keeping the same car, now updated, at a lower price as the entry point to the range.

That said, cosmetic and equipment touches have been added so that buyers get a well-equipped car, ready to move through city streets with ease and elegance. The DC charging capacity is a power of 100 kW, while on AC it can be charged through a 7 kW charger.

Interior equipment

Standard equipment includes a contrasting roof, 17-inch alloy wheels and tinted rear glass. One advantage added to this variant is that buyers can choose from the model’s entire colour range, including metallic colours, at no extra cost.

Inside, there is a steering wheel with a leather-like feel and, technologically, it includes a panoramic rear-view camera and rear parking sensors. The Vauxhall Multimedia Pure Panel infotainment system is compatible with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, so excellent connectivity is available.

To further strengthen its offer, Vauxhall has announced that it has signed an agreement with Tesco to offer one year of free charging through its chargers. With this, and its charger-installation strategy called Electric Streets of Britain, the brand aims to make buying electric vehicles more accessible to all British drivers.

The Vauxhall Mokka-e Griffin is already on sale in the United Kingdom, and it remains to be seen whether it will reach the European market under the Opel badge.
