The Volkswagen Beetle and the Citroën 2CV among the most sought-after classics

What do you consider when buying a car? Many will answer this question with several arguments. Some buy a particular car for the prestige of the brand and remain loyal to it for years, others because they like a model and “follow” all its redesigns, and others because they simply want to be up to date with technology. Others do mathematical calculations that take into account depreciation, fuel consumption and maintenance costs to base their purchase.
But there are other car buyers, those who couldn’t care less about new models, who prefer to buy a classic. This is shown by a report from AutoScout 24, which lists the classics most in demand by buyers, now that the trend for vintage and retro extends to classic cars, which are gaining ground in the used car market.

Thus, among the most sought-after classic cars, the eternal Volkswagen Beetle has decisively taken the lead. The share of total demand for classic cars held by the Beetle reaches 4.9% of the total, while the Citroën 2CV, the well-known “2 horses”, follows closely with 4.4%. The third contender is a true “distance devourer”, the Mercedes-Benz 280. Other models such as the Ford Mustang or the Porsche 911 also make it into the top 10, regardless of the fact that prices vary considerably from one brand to another and from one era of the car to another.
AutoScout24 also drew up a list of the most desired cars, those that buyers would like to see more numerous or more accessible in the used car market. Topping this list is the Ford Mustang. 41.2% of respondents want a classic Mustang, while another 20% would settle for an impressive BMW M1. The smallest on the list, the Mini, is wanted by 12.4% of the enthusiasts surveyed, taking third place. Other varied groups of classics such as the Opel Manta, the Ford Capri or the Renault 4 are also among the most desired.
And you: would you replace your everyday car with one of these classics? Which model do you long to have?
