Toyota plans to end production of the FJ Cruiser

The Toyota FJ Cruiser will not be remembered as one of the great moments in the history of Toyota, quite the contrary; some believe this model was a mistake, that it was not justified and that it does not do justice to the adventurous spirit of its predecessor. But the truth is that it has reached seven years in production, after Japanese executives assured that it would only be produced for one generation.
The FJ Cruiser is the successor to one of the most historic off-roaders, the Land Cruiser FJ40, manufactured from 1958 until 2001. Despite having been criticised for its striking shoebox shape and its poor visibility, it makes up for this with a ride height that every off-road vehicle should have. In fact, on specialist off-road forums it has been dubbed “the little Hummer”.
According to Toyota, on 10 June 2014 order taking will be permanently halted for the model in the North American market. In the meantime, it will keep its two-wheel and four-wheel drive configurations, paired with a 4-litre V6 engine producing 260 hp.
Sales have not kept pace in recent years. While more than 56,000 units were sold in its launch year, last year fewer than 14,000 were sold . In our country not many will miss it, since Toyota does not sell it officially, but it can be imported through parallel channels.
