The Volvo EX90 will feature an interior radar to prevent children and pets from being forgotten inside.

Leaving children and pets alone inside a parked car is always a risk, so the Volvo XE90 is equipped with an interior radar to detect them.

Volvo Concept Recharge

One of the problems that causes the deaths of children and pets in a car is leaving them inside while shopping or even forgetting them in the cabin for long periods of time. Although it may seem unlikely, this has happened many times and usually ends tragically. But with the Volvo EX90, that “oversight” could disappear.

Volvo has been characterised for decades by offering a very high level of safety to its customers, so the introduction of this interior monitoring system does not surprise us. The Volvo EX90 is the brand’s new electric SUV, based on the Concept Recharge (whose image heads this article), and it will be the first to be equipped with this safety system that can save many lives.

Volvo Sensor Pasajeros

A high-precision interior radar

This radar is aimed at the interior of the vehicle and is capable of detecting even the slightest movement, such as that caused by a baby sleeping in a child seat, for example. The detection system operates with millimetre precision and manages to detect very small movements. It is designed to detect even a baby’s breathing, so that there is no risk of a child being left in the vehicle and suffering harm as a result.

The sensors that make up this system are located in the roof of the vehicle, the interior lights and the boot, so that the entire cabin is fully covered and there is no risk. The system will be included in the equipment of the Volvo EX90, although only in markets where it is approved for use. Later on, the interior radar will also be fitted to other models of the brand to prevent children and pets from being left alone inside without the driver knowing.

When the driver locks the vehicle, the system will activate and if it detects movement inside, it will alert the user so they can make sure no one is inside, and will keep the vehicle unlocked. If the driver wants to lock the car with someone inside, the climate control will keep running to prevent heatstroke or hypothermia.

The Volvo EX90 will be presented on 9 November and will feature several safety systems that will reduce risks while driving.
