The Volvo S60 Polestar and its first image

Volvo has today released a partial image of the Polestar S60, which will be presented on June 16.

Volvo has for some time been weighing the idea that every model, or at least most of them, should have a performance variant prepared by Polestar. The first one to be shown experimentally was a tuned version of the C30 , and now it is the turn of the S60 to be revealed, since Volvo has leaked this partial image today.

In true Swedish fashion, the brand has not said much about the model’s characteristics, but it has announced a presentation date: June 16, timed to coincide with the Swedish Touring Car Championship in Gothenburg. Even more intriguing is whether the Polestar S60 will keep its inline six-cylinder engine, or whether it will move up to the major leagues of V8s.

If it keeps the current six-cylinder engine, improved for this model, the Volvo S60 would be around 300 horsepower. But if the Swedes opt for a V8 (on which there have been some comments), we would be talking about an S60 of over 400 horsepower, with a sequential gearbox or a six-speed manual.

While everything said so far is purely speculative, what is certain is that the S60 promises a significant transformation that will put it on a par with the BMW M3 or the Mercedes-Benz C63 AMG. Let’s hope it isn’t just an S60 with wider wheels. Only a few more days until we find out whether we are witnessing the spiciest street Volvo in its history or merely an upgrade to the six-cylinder.
