The Volvo S60 Polestar goes into production

S60 Polestar

After many months of waiting, during which Volvo has kept us on tenterhooks, we can finally announce that one of the brand’s jewels will enter production shortly. It is the Volvo S60 Polestar, the sportiest version of the range (and of the brand in general). It is the Swedish marque’s bid to compete with AMG, the BMW M, the Audi S and RS, the Lexus F, and so on.

Ever since Volvo began showing us details of its most hard-hitting saloon back in June last year, we have not stopped speculating about its arrival in production. Well, it will happen. But not everything is good news for lovers of strong emotions, since it will neither be a worldwide production nor retain the specifications of the previous concepts.

For now, the S60 Polestar will be sold in a limited run in Australia, where the brand expects to achieve good sales figures for this very special model. However, depending on the results it obtains in the antipodes, it will consider the option of selling it in the USA and Europe.

The chassis of this very special version has been tuned by Volvo’s test drivers, including the collaboration of its racing drivers, with the aim of achieving an extremely sporty, competition-like feel, with no concession to comfort.

In the mechanical section, the engine of the standard S60 T6 has been taken as the base, and although the prototypes reached 508 CV, other factors such as reliability took priority, so they have limited the T6’s power to 350 CV and over 500 Nm of torque. The T6 will be paired with a 6-speed automatic gearbox with Launch Control system, which will transmit its power to the ground through an all-wheel-drive system signed by Haldex. This combination will be sufficient to reach 100 km/h from a standstill in just 4.9 seconds, and to reach an electronically limited 250 km/h.
