The war Tesla vs Porsche breaks out at the Nürburgring
A few days after the Porsche Taycan became the fastest electric car around the Nürburgring, the Tesla Model S Plaid has arrived to steal the title.
As usual, Elon Musk, CEO of Tesla, decided to stir up a storm on what is his platform for issuing official statements to society, Twitter. The American tycoon announced that he would put a Tesla Model S on the tarmac of the Nürburgring.
This would have gone unnoticed if it weren’t for the fact that, just a few days earlier, the Porsche Taycan had become the fastest electric car to complete a lap of the Nürburgring. Coincidence? We don’t think so. We should clarify that the Porsche Taycan is the fastest road-going electric car on the famous German circuit, and it turns out that the fastest electric vehicle at the Nürburgring is the Volkswagen ID-R.
The competitive drive of the owner and founder of Tesla leads him to always want to place his brand at the very top. For this reason, it seems we are witnessing the start of the third world war or, to put it another way, the battle between Tesla and Porsche.
It is true that we later learned that the Tesla Model S would arrive at the Nürburgring to take part in a set of events where the manufacturer wanted to test future performance cars. However, the company never does anything without a purpose, and we know perfectly well what it intends.

The Tesla Model S Plaid is the second instalment of the Tesla vs. Porsche war
To beat the time of the Porsche Taycan, the California-based company has created the Tesla Model S Plaid, a sportier, more performance-oriented version of the electric saloon. What’s more, this will not be an isolated case, as the name Plaid will from now on be used to designate the sportiest versions in the Tesla range.
Musk’s company is a true master at devising marketing strategies that keep everyone on tenterhooks. This is another one, and it has managed to make all of us who love cars – yes, even if they are electric – keep watching to see how long the Tesla Model S Plaid’s stopwatch would show.
After several days of maximum uncertainty, we now have a result, although it must be said that it is not official. The Tesla Model S Plaid took 7 minutes and 23 seconds to complete a lap of the Nürburgring, although for now it has not achieved official status, as it was timed manually by the German magazine “Auto Motor und Sport”.
Therefore, if we compare it with its arch-rival, the Porsche Taycan took 7 minutes and 42 seconds to complete a run around the green hell. That time was enough for the first electric Porsche to become the fastest electric car around the Nürburgring.
However, and although nothing is official, the Tesla Model S Plaid has knocked no less than 19 seconds off that mark, which would take the title from Porsche in just a few days. If there is one thing we are sure of, it is that Porsche may not have had the last word with the Taycan at the Nürburgring. So, as we said before: the war is on.
