GL Mercedes Range / versions SUV
There will be no Maybach SUV until the arrival of the new Mercedes-Benz GLS
Mercedes-Benz will have a new model within the Maybach luxury family. It will be built on the brand’s largest SUV, although we will have to wait for the new generation, when the current GL is renamed GLS and gets a new platform.

That is what the executives of the German brand have decided. The luxury sub-brand of Mercedes-Benz, Maybach, will have an SUV model, but not for at least another couple of years.
It will be based on the new generation of the current GL, which will be renamed GLS and will debut a new platform.
The Maybach sub-brand has undergone a deep restructuring in recent times, after it was reborn a few years ago and launched one of the most luxurious and opulent saloons in the world. However, due to various problems with both positioning and sales, the brand did not bear fruit and disappeared again.
It was not until last year that Mercedes-Benz, the brand’s owner, decided to relaunch it with a different outlook, thus becoming a sort of “luxury trim” for the most expensive models of the star brand. Its “relaunch” came hand in hand with the Mercedes-Maybach S-Class, which arrived with V6, V8 and V12 engines. Due to the great success of the first months, the managers of the Maybach sub-brand have decided to broaden their horizons, extending these ultra-luxury trims to more Mercedes models.
That is why they have decided to bet on a mega-luxurious SUV, something that seems to be very fashionable lately, since other brands such as Land Rover with its Range Rover SVAutobiography or Volvo with the XC90 Excellence have already taken that step.
The new Maybach will be built on the platform of Mercedes’s largest SUV, the GL, which, however, will not happen during the sale of the current generation. It will be with the arrival of a completely new model, renamed GLS, within a couple of years that Maybach will also appear in an SUV, with the aim of offering standards never seen before in an SUV, however luxurious it may be.
