This is getting out of hand: the next Cadillac Escalade will feature a 38-inch screen

The next Cadillac Escalade will arrive with a 38-inch diagonal screen, an element meant to be innovative and revolutionary with a 4K resolution.

It is common knowledge that brands embrace minimalism by eliminating physical buttons and introducing touchscreens. With this premise, over the last few years we have witnessed numerous vehicles adopting digital instrument clusters and, in some cases, these connected to the screen itself. But sooner or later a brand was bound to come along willing to make a difference, to break current boundaries and set new ones, and that brand is none other than Cadillac.

The American giant has just announced that the new Escalade, one of the most charismatic vehicles sold on the other side of the pond, will feature a 38-inch diagonal screen. Not one inch more or less. The Cadillac SUV has wanted to shed its reputation as a car favoured by rappers and by the president’s security detail to become a true technological powerhouse.

This colossal screen will, a priori, use a display system quite similar to the one Mercedes-Benz employs in its latest range of vehicles. A brief teaser shared by Cadillac itself shows a gigantic screen lighting up in the gloom that will serve both as the instrument cluster and as the infotainment system.

But the American firm has not only wanted to outshine brands such as Tesla, who boast one of the largest screens in the world, but also to offer an unprecedented level of visual quality. Cadillac claims that the OLED screen of the new Escalade will offer a resolution equivalent to 4K televisions.

Given these statements, we may be looking at a system capable of monitoring in great detail any element we wish to see. Furthermore, it will be curved, an innovation present in models such as the future BMW iNEXT, which Cadillac has wanted to bring forward in order to offer a new experience at the controls of its most exclusive SUV.

It will be in February 2020 that the American company unveils the new Escalade to the world, a model that promises to mark a before and after in the automotive industry. It will only be a matter of time before other brands turn to similar solutions in an attempt to compete with Cadillac, especially in Europe where local brands have no presence and the field is wide open.
