This is how a man photographs the 1998 Chinese Grand Prix of Formula 1 with his Game Boy
When we go to Formula 1 we like to do so accompanied by a camera, however, this man wanted to improve the experience with his Game Boy.

Formula 1 championships become impressive events where thousands of fans gather to witness the race first-hand. When this happens, many spectators spend part of their time trying to capture the different drivers speeding past on the track with their cameras and, at the same time, the press also attends with top-quality equipment. However, one man wanted to stand out by attending the Chinese Grand Prix with a most curious camera, the Game Boy Camera.
It is an accessory that hit the market in 1998 and was used to capture any moment with our Game Boy. This camera could be attached to any console of the brand except the Game Boy Micro, which did not meet the dimensions required to make proper use of this photographic device. However, the Game Boy Color has proven to be the ideal companion to immortalise Formula 1.

The protagonist of this article decided to attend the big event with his Game Boy Color, one of Nintendo’s most successful products, and photograph different moments of the race with his video game console. The Game Boy Camera has a resolution of 128×112 pixels, but it was not only used to freeze any situation; it also allowed users to create fun animations, play mini-games, retouch our photographs and even print them with another accessory from the Japanese company, the Game Boy Printer.
Nintendo’s goal when unveiling this product was to allow its younger audience to enjoy a camera without the need to resort to a more traditional device. However, the owner of this Game Boy wanted to keep using it 20 years after its launch and combine it with one of his passions, Formula 1.
As we can see in the final result, this ingenious photographer managed to capture different moments of the race with his Game Boy Color. Fernando Alonso and Vandoorne were two of the protagonists of his photographs, alongside other race cars such as Renault or Red Bull. Without a doubt, the retro style that the captures taken with the Game Boy Camera acquire makes the Formula 1 cars look as if they came from a video game of the era. At the same time, other elements were also immortalised, such as the F1 logo or different grandstands along the track.

Without a doubt, originality and imagination know no limits and this man managed to make the most of a machine that for many is obsolete. In this way, he shows us that even a 20-year-old Game Boy can be a faithful companion when attending the most prestigious races and photographing everything around us.
