This is how the new Honda Civic Type R sounds
The new Honda Civic Type R teases us with a teaser video in which we hear its roar. The 2-litre four-cylinder engine sounds almost like a V8.
The new Honda Civic Type R will be the most aggressive model the Japanese brand has ever offered on the market. Its looks are stunning, but the sound it makes has sent shivers down our spines in the new video that Honda has released to celebrate its recent launch in the American market (where it is going on sale for the first time).
The Honda Civic Type R has a turbocharged 2.0-litre, 4-cylinder petrol engine that delivers 306 CV to the front wheels. Normally, an engine of this size shouldn’t sound this brutal, unless it has been prepared for competition. Honda has managed to give us a compact car with a sound that seems to come straight from a WRC model.

One of the reasons it sounds so good is that the central exhaust outlet is slightly smaller than the other two. This third exhaust pipe creates negative pressure when the engine runs at high and medium revs, which reduces the noise inside the Honda Civic Type R’s cabin.
You don’t have to take our word for it, check it out yourselves… We’ve embedded the video below so you can hear the beast roar. Be patient, the engine starts to sound at the end of the video (at 0:49).
