This is the spectacular sound of the new Alpine A110

The French sports car developed by Renaultsport offers one of the best sounds ever produced by an inline four-cylinder engine.

Many place the new Alpine A110 as a direct rival to the Porsche Cayman, and although that is high praise, we can say that its sound has nothing to envy from the German sports car.

In the previous “on board” video we can see the French sports car driving along several French roads, and for the first time, we have had the chance to hear the sound that its 1.8-litre four-cylinder engine developed by Renaultsport (the sports division of the French brand) produces. Although it is not an excessively powerful engine (247 CV), the sound it offers is among the best we have heard from an inline four-cylinder powerplant; the exhaust system probably has a lot to do with this.

Does the sound of the Alpine A110 outshine that of the Porsche Cayman 2016?

Logically it does not have the unmistakable roar of a six-cylinder boxer engine or the elegance of an inline six, but if we compare it with the sound produced by the four-cylinder of the Porsche Cayman 2016, we realise that Renaultsport has done a great job with the Alpine A110.

The Alpine A110 is almost as light as the Alfa Romeo 4C

Alfa Romeo 4C

One of the French sports car’s strong points is its lightness. At just 1,080 kg, it positions itself as a real alternative to the radical Alfa Romeo 4C (995 kg), a model with which it also shares the same acceleration figure: 4.5 seconds from 0 to 100 km/h. It is worth noting that the price of the Alpine A110 (€58,500) is a significant point in its favour in this particular fight with the Italian sports car (€66,200).

Would you buy an Alpine A110?

Considering the price of its rivals – Porsche Cayman (€59,325), Audi TTS (€60,520) and Alfa Romeo 4C (€66,200) – would you buy an Alpine A110?
