Madrid has a speed camera that issues more fines than any other in Spain. Every day it catches more than 170 vehicles, which means revenue of more than six million euros a year. The speed camera that issues the most fines in Spain is located at kilometre 19 of Madrid’s M-30, southbound and on the outer ring; specifically opposite the Casa de Campo, in the Marqués de Monistrol area.

In just one year, it has issued an average of 170 penalty notices a day to drivers for speeding. In twelve months, this camera has fined 61,044 drivers and has managed to collect a staggering 6.2 million euros; an average of 17,049 euros a day. This gantry-mounted camera is triggered as soon as vehicles exceed 70 kilometres/hour and covers all four lanes of the road.

The second speed camera that issues the most penalties in Spain is installed in Málaga. This speed camera fined 53,000 drivers during 2020. In Madrid, the second camera that records the most offences is located on the A-5, specifically in the Batán district. It has issued more than 47,040 penalties; an average of 128 a day.

It is worth noting that of the ten speed cameras that issue the most fines in Madrid, eight are located on the M-30. Another of the speed cameras that issues the most fines is not one of the oldest in the capital. It came into operation on 15 April 2019 and issues penalties when drivers exceed 70 km/h, over a 1,750-metre stretch of the Extremadura road. It is located between kilometre 4 and 5.7 in both directions of traffic. This camera is capable of collecting 4.6 million euros.

The third camera that issues the most penalties is on the M-30 at the Avenida de la Paz, in the north of the city. It is located at kilometre 4.150 of the M-30, on the inner ring, southbound, and last year it fined 40,094 drivers, collecting a total of 4.2 million euros for the City Council. Outside the M-30, the camera that issues the most fines is at the entrance to Madrid from the Toledo dual carriageway, at Santa María de la Cabeza.

It is worth noting that fines from fixed speed cameras in Madrid fell last year because of the pandemic. Revenue was 53.4 million euros, spread across the 26 fixed speed cameras located in Madrid.
