The use of military off-road vehicles is becoming increasingly popular, and now you can enjoy a civilian version of a model used by the Israeli army

Off-road enthusiasts always want a vehicle that breaks all expectations, so the cars used by the armed forces are always a treat they want to try. One of the best-known cases is the off-road car Humvee, which launched several civilian versions, although many units are often sold once they have completed their service, though they are somewhat outdated models.

But now one of the most attractive military off-roaders has reached the civilian market: the Tomcar TX4 UTV, an off-roader used by Israel’s armed forces. This model is designed to tackle the toughest terrain possible and is the work of a company founded in 1991. It was designed as a reconnaissance vehicle, with a capacity for 2 and 4 people and a payload of 1,134 kg.

The civilian version has been modified to remove some of the military capabilities, but it remains one of the most efficient off-road vehicles in the world. The company’s target drivers are extreme driving enthusiasts and those who need to work in the countryside, such as ranchers, for example, since they have to move across very complicated and rugged terrain.

The Tomcar TX4 UTV uses a 1.5-litre four-cylinder engine, which delivers a power output of 107 CV and a maximum torque of 108 Nm. These are not very spectacular figures, but the vehicle’s light weight, just 1,202 kg, should allow fairly efficient performance.

In a vehicle with these ambitions, the suspension is very important, and this model features independent suspension for each wheel, giving it ground clearance of up to 432 mm and a wheel travel of 355 mm. The configuration of the Tomcar TX4 UTV allows it to tow up to 2,449 kg, which is not bad at all.

That said, being a model designed for the army, the interior has few comforts or very appealing equipment. What it does have is electronically assisted steering, PRB padded seats and four-point safety harnesses, and a fully functional, practical dashboard that allows very efficient use. The Tomcar XT4 UTV has a price of 36,500 dollars in the United States and Israel, but the brand promises a model with an enclosed cabin and a different equipment level, for which there are no details or price yet.
