Top Gear tests the Ferrari 599 GTO

Top Gear prueba el Ferrari 599 GTO
The second episode of season 16 of Top Gear brought us the test of one of the supercars with the best sound at the moment, the 599 GTO from Ferrari. It produces 670 CV, from a huge 6-litre V12 engine, which powers this limited edition of the 599 GTB. It is the most powerful production Ferrari in history (the Enzo had 660 CV).

To handle this extraordinary power and keep the car from getting out of control at the first corner, a huge army of chips and electronic systems takes care of keeping order in the whirlwind of speed and sound that the Ferrari generates. Jeremy Clarkson is captivated by the latter – the speed and the sound – but disappointed by the former – the excessive use of electronics.

Judging by what we see in the video, when all the electronic aids are switched off, the GTO seems ungovernable, out of control. Only with the controls active can you go very fast, without fear of an unexpected (and usually uncontrollable) reaction. It is in this situation that you realise you are not the one dominating the car, that you don’t feel it as an extension of your body, but that your role is reduced to a mere entity whose only mission is to turn the steering wheel so as not to hit the wall in front of you.

Either way, I think it’s worth taking a look at the video, not only for the 599 GTO, but also for the rest of the GTOs that appear in it. Enjoy!
