Toyota and Lexus, record hybrid sales for the seventh consecutive year
Toyota and Lexus managed to beat their own record and closed 2016 with a record of 928,000 vehicles sold with hybrid engines across all their ranges: Yaris, Auris, Verso, Avensis and RAV4. Lexus, for its part, sold 74,300 units worldwide.

Toyota sold 295,000 hybrid cars in Europe in 2016, representing a record for the seventh consecutive year. The Japanese manufacturer has seen growth of 41% compared to 2015, and today, hybrids from the Toyota group account for nearly one in three vehicles sold in this category.
Toyota Motor Europe has surpassed the threshold of 900,000 vehicles sold in a year for the first time since 2009In total, Toyota Motor Europe has surpassed the 900,000 vehicles sold in a year§h6• for the first time since 2009, exactly 928,000, 6% more than in 2015. “The European market has continued to grow strongly, and we have done even better. We have been able to capitalise on the growing affinity of European drivers for our hybrid vehicles,” said Dr. Johan van Zyl, President and CEO of Toyota Motor Europe.
The main Toyota models performed well commercially across Europe. The Yaris, Auris, Verso, Avensis and RAV4 ranges expanded their market share in their respective segments. “Volume growth is not our only goal, but we are pleased to increase our share and surpass the 900,000-unit mark for the first time since 2009. Following the first full year of sales of the new Toyota C-HR, I expect 2017 to be even better,” says Dr. Johan van Zyl, President and CEO of Toyota Motor Europe.

Lexus also achieved a record sales result in 2016. With 74,300 units sold, the premium brand increased its production by 16.5% compared to 2015. The results achieved by Lexus in Russia are quite striking, where its sales volume rose by 19%, despite the luxury market in that country falling by 4%.
“Lexus dealerships continue to offer exceptional customer service and maintain leading levels of loyalty. This combination places Lexus on a very good path to reach 100,000 units in 2020,” says Karl Schlicht, Executive Vice President of Sales and Marketing at Toyota and Lexus.
