Toyota and Panasonic bring vehicle-to-appliance connectivity closer to reality

Toyota Motor Corporation and Panasonic Corporation have jointly developed a service that connects vehicles and household appliances. The two companies agreed to launch new services based on telematics systems that link Toyota models with Panasonic appliances, and to that end they have developed a “cloud”-based interface to link these services.
In addition, they are also developing applications to control household appliances from the vehicle and check their status, such as reminding you to turn off your home air conditioning when you leave, or switching it on remotely from the vehicle before you get home, all through an application linked to the car’s GPS data.
This new service will be ready for launch in Japan during the second half of this year. It will also be showcased at the Toyota stand at Smart Community Japan 2014, to be held at Tokyo Big Sight in Tokyo, Japan, from June 18 to 20.
Toyota and Panasonic will continue working in the future to offer us smarter mobility, where people, vehicles, homes and communities are connected through “cloud”-based services.
As a way of enhancing the value that vehicles bring to people’s lives, Toyota will use the Toyota Smart Center “cloud”-based service to connect people, vehicles and homes.
For its part, Panasonic is currently working on the development of new smart homes that are environmentally friendly and networked to enable a better lifestyle.
