Toyota continues developing its 1,000-kilometre range batteries

There is no doubt that Toyota is one of the brands that spends the most on R&D when looking for solutions to improve “green” vehicles. It could be said that they are the greatest exponent of hybrids, while also trying to be so in electric vehicles.
To this end, they are working on batteries that, if they turn out as they hope, will surely revolutionise the electric vehicle fleet, including motorbikes, cars and even trucks and tractors. Not only because of their very high range, but also because of their low cost:
Little by little we are learning more about these new batteries which, according to the rumours reaching us, will provide between 500 and 1,000 kilometres of range per charge. This would be achieved by creating cells measuring 5×5 centimetres, 90% smaller than lithium ones. Moreover, they are made of materials such as sodium, which is more abundant and therefore cheaper.
What we still do not know for certain is when we will be able to enjoy this technology in our vehicles. In principle, it is believed it will form part of the third generation of batteries, which is expected to reach the market at the end of this decade, that is, 2018 or 2019 at the earliest. Although, at the pace we are going despite the crisis, who knows whether more efficient vehicles than electric ones will have emerged by then…
