Toyota Yaris: 10 million units produced for the whole world

Few models on the market today can boast of a long track record in the market. And that is why it surprises us that several models have already reached 10 million units produced worldwide, which is proof of a job well done. This is the Toyota Yaris, which, along with other models from the brand, such as the Corolla, Camry, RAV4, Hilux and Land Cruiser, has become a sales success.

The latest generation of the Toyota Yaris has been on the market since 2020 and has proven its worth against other similar models. In addition, the model family has been expanded with the incorporation of the GR Yaris variant and the Yaris Cross, which arrived in 2020 and 2021, respectively.

In Europe it is selling well: since the first-generation Yaris appeared in 1999, 5,155,500 units have been sold. In 2022, sales of the Yaris family accounted for one third of those recorded in Europe. In total, 185,781 units of the Yaris were sold, 156,086 units of the Yaris Cross and 5,392 units of the GR Yaris version. This means these sales represented 8% of segment B sales.

It is manufactured in eight countries, although vehicles destined for Europe are built at the Toyota Motor Manufacturing France (TMMF) plant since 2021. It is also manufactured at Toyota Motor Manufacturing Czech Republic (TMMCZ) in Kolin (Czech Republic) since 2021, to meet European demand for the model.

The model’s name has changed in several markets. The name Yaris comes from Charis, the singular form of the Charites, the Greek goddesses of charm, beauty, nature, human creativity, benevolence and fertility. In Japan it was known as Vitz, although this fourth generation now takes the name Yaris. Elsewhere it has been called Platz, Echo, Belta, Vios and Scion iA. In addition, it has been marketed as the Daihatsu Charade and the Mazda2 in some countries.

The fourth generation of the Toyota Yaris

The current generation of the Toyota Yaris is the fourth and is a vehicle that is based on a version of the TNGA platform. It is the first model built on this platform, which allows the model to deliver maximum performance. The hybrid powertrain now offers 116 CV of power. Throttle response is also greater and reduces the acceleration time to 9.7 seconds.

The presence of the Yaris Cross and the GR Yaris allows buyers to choose the variant they prefer and obtain adequate performance for their purchase.

The Toyota Yaris will continue to offer many years of success for a model that has surpassed the magic figure of 10 million units sold and that will keep adding to it, we hope, for many years to come.
