Two-cylinder Fiat engine

At the new Geneva show, the Italian brand Fiat will present a small engine with only two cylinders and 900 cubic centimeters. The power it will produce is 85 CV, a very respectable figure considering it doesn’t even have one liter of capacity. Many small 1.2 or 1.4 engines deliver similar power figures.
The need to reduce consumption and emissions is pressing. In this case, it seems there will be new laws in 2012 in the Italian country on this matter, so this engine may come in very handy to offer an attractive variant from not only an ecological but also an economic point of view. The Tata Nano offers 33 CV although, fortunately, it is not sold in Europe.
This engine will be implemented in the new Fiat 500 under the name TwinAir. CO2 emissions could be below 100 grams per kilometer, beating the record of its own brand but still falling somewhat short of the mere 86 grams per kilometer of the new Smart ForTwo, which renews its title as the car with the lowest emissions.
Low-emission mobility is becoming increasingly strong. Brands are doing what they can to gain market share, with a very strong trend toward reducing consumption and emissions even at the cost of performance; sportiness sells less and less. We will have to get used to it.
