Vehicles without a DGT label will not be allowed to park in Madrid
Local regulations will activate the parking ban for vehicles without a badge in Madrid’s SER Area from January 1, 2020
As set out in the air quality improvement plans of the municipality of Madrid and, under the Sustainable Mobility Ordinance of October 5, 2018, from next Wednesday, January 1, 2020, vehicles that do not have an environmental label from the Directorate-General for Traffic may be fined if they park in the areas regulated by parking meters.
In this way, any vehicle, regardless of its type, that falls into category A, that is, diesel vehicles manufactured before 2006 or petrol vehicles older than 2000, will not be allowed to park in either the blue or green zones of Madrid under the Regulated Parking Service.
In fact, from January 1 itself, despite being a public holiday and therefore parking payment not being required in the spaces restricted by the SER Area, the ticket machines will not print the required tickets that validate and prove municipal authorization to park in the green or blue zones of the capital if applicants request one for a category A vehicle.
If a vehicle without a DGT label is parked in any of the spaces of the Madrid Regulated Parking Service, the applicable penalty is a fine of 90 euros, with no deduction of points, which can be reduced to 45 euros if paid promptly.
From now until the end of the year, the city council will carry out an information campaign to warn both residents and visitors about this ban, which affects the oldest vehicles and their users.
42,000 affected
Starting today, a dissemination campaign on the parking ban for vehicles without a DGT label in Madrid begins, using the Calle 30 information screens, bus shelters, digital mupis and media coverage, together with the support of the workers of the two companies that operate parking control in the SER Area, who will distribute 50,000 information leaflets that will be left on the windscreens of vehicles without a DGT sticker parked in SER spaces . Until December 31, the city council will inform users in general and residents in particular.
For the second group, it plans to send no fewer than 42,000 personalized letters to vehicle owners informing them of the exemptions that vehicles without an environmental label from the DGT may benefit from starting January 1:
- Vehicles with an SER Residents authorization in their respective neighborhood.
- Commercial and industrial vehicles that have an SER parking authorization.
- Auxiliary vehicles supporting the operation of the regular general urban public collective transport service.
- Two- and three-wheeled vehicles.
- Vehicles used to transport people who hold and use the special authorization for Persons with Reduced Mobility.
- And vehicles used for essential services.
