VIDEO: Tesla Model S vs Jaguar I-Pace, which is faster in a straight line?
The Tesla Model S and the Jaguar I-Pace go head to head in an unprecedented drag race.
The Jaguar I-Pace is the first 100% electric model from the British brand, and it is without a doubt the first direct rival to the Tesla Model X. Comparisons between these two models are the order of the day, but what we did not expect was a drag race between the British SUV and the Tesla Model S. That is precisely what the Top Gear team have done, and the outcome is truly incredible.
For this quarter-mile race, Top Gear brought a Tesla Model S 75D, the only version that can be compared on price with the Jaguar I-Pace: both cost around 80,000 euros.

Either way, the most important thing in this test is knowing which of the two is faster in a straight line: the Tesla Model S features a 362 CV and 659 Nm engine of torque, while the Jaguar I-Pace has a powertrain that delivers 395 CV and 696 Nm of torque. If the analysis ended here, we would say the Jaguar I-Pace starts with the advantage, but reality is very different, since the British SUV weighs considerably more than the American saloon: 475 kg more, to be exact. In addition, the Tesla Model S accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in just 4.2 seconds, while the Jaguar I-Pace does it in 4.5 seconds.

The numbers favour Tesla in this battle, but the Jaguar I-Pace has proven to be very quick off the line. The battle is on…
