VinFast unveils the second generation of the VF 8 electric SUV
With the second generation of the VF 8, VinFast offers an electric SUV that is more compact, dynamic and efficient, without sacrificing performance or technological equipment.
VinFast has just unveiled a new generation of the VF 8, its mid-size electric SUV. The Vietnamese manufacturer will begin selling this new model in its domestic market, before later extending its availability globally.
Against the current trend of making SUVs ever larger, VinFast has taken the opposite approach. The second-generation VF 8 is noticeably more compact than its predecessor. It measures 4.70 metres long, 1.87 metres wide and 1.67 metres tall, which means a reduction of 4.9 cm in length and 6.2 cm in width, while the height increases slightly by 3 mm. In addition, the wheelbase has been shortened by 11 cm, to 2.84 metres.

Despite being smaller, the new VF 8 has a much more dynamic and sporty character. At the front it features a lower, more sharply raked bonnet, along with a large closed grille in glossy black and more compact headlights with a bolder light signature, including daytime running lights in three segments. The vertical air intakes and the “A”-shaped design in the lower section give it a more aggressive appearance. Likewise, its profile looks lower and more streamlined thanks to more pronounced lines, with a more angular cabin. The rear is more rounded, with slim taillights that form a “V”-shaped light signature around the logo.
Other changes to note
Inside, VinFast maintains its minimalist and digital philosophy. The dashboard is cleaner, with narrower air vents, and now incorporates an instrument cluster. The steering wheel has a square design with rounded edges, a new gear selector has been added and the centre console is more orderly. On the other hand, the large 15.6-inch screen has been replaced by a 12.9-inch unit, which is easier to handle. The new VF 8 includes automatic two-zone climate control, a memory electric driver’s seat and an eight-speaker sound system.
In terms of safety, this new electric SUV from the Vietnamese manufacturer features a 360º camera and advanced driver assistance systems, such as adaptive cruise control, lane keeping assist and blind-spot warning. VinFast aims to earn five stars in ASEAN NCAP tests.

The new VF 8 is based on a completely new platform and fits frequency-selective dampers on both axles to improve comfort and control. For now, only one version will be available, with a single front-mounted motor producing 170 kW and 330 Nm of torque, together with a 60.13 kWh battery pack. This configuration offers an NEDC range of up to 500 km and, at a DC fast-charging point, takes less than 30 minutes to increase the battery level from 10 to 70 percent.
VinFast has already opened reservations for this new electric SUV in Vietnam, where it is available from 999 million dong, which at the current exchange rate comes to a little over 32 thousand euros. The brand has not yet confirmed when it will reach international markets such as Europe or North America, where more powerful versions with all-wheel drive and greater range could be sold.
