Visual comparison: new Audi A5 Cabrio 2017 and S5 Cabrio 2017 versus their predecessors
We compare the exterior and interior design of the new generation with that of 2012. Audi is introducing a more geometric line in its new cars.
Audi has today unveiled the new generation of convertibles based on its saloon, the A5 Cabrio 2017 and the S5 Cabrio 2017. As we can see, the brand of the four rings has profoundly reshaped the styling of its new cars, giving them a far more geometric approach. Both the new Q5 (link) and the new A5 Cabrio and S5 Cabrio display sharper lines and a more muscular overall character than their predecessors. To see the full extent of this design revision, we analyse the images of the new A5 Cabrio and S5 Cabrio against their earlier models:

The front of both versions has received a more aggressive tone, with squarer lines compared with the 2012 version. Larger, more voluminous air intakes stand out, along with a wider, flatter front grille. The shape of the headlights has been revised, as has the bonnet, which now features a certain relief. The front end is somewhat reminiscent of the Tesla Model S, and its design is increasingly close to that of its smaller sibling, the new A3.

The rear of the new A5 Cabrio also bears some resemblance to the new A3 saloon. The rear window is now flatter than in the previous generation. It is also possible to see how the third brake light, which in the 2012 version sits above the brand emblem, is now integrated into the trim surrounding the hood cover.
There is also a revision to the rear diffuser of the new S5 Cabrio. As for the side profile, practically the same proportions are maintained and no major changes can be seen.

Inside, numerous improvements have been introduced, such as a new steering wheel design, a new instrument cluster and a new centre console. The dashboard has a more modern look, although the integrated screen in the 2012 model was far more ergonomic.
