Volkswagen adds 4Motion all-wheel drive to the new Crafter

Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles, the division of the German brand, adds the 4Motion all-wheel-drive system to the new Crafter , which will be available in our country in three versions: panel van, kombi and pick-up from the second quarter of 2012.

According to Volkswagen, the Crafter 4Motion aims to meet the growing demand in emerging markets for off-road transport vehicles. In addition, this model may be aimed at other markets such as the construction industry and emergency services…

As for the drive system, it distributes power 50:50 between both axles, with standard differential locks on the centre differential and the rear axle. Optionally, it also has a lock for the front axle.

Other changes made are aimed at reinforcing the springs with greater travel and raising ground clearance by about ten centimetres. However, it will only be available with the most powerful engine, the 2.0-litre biturbo that produces 163 CV and a maximum torque of 400 Nm.
