Today a new edition of the Detroit Motor Show has begun, and the different brands are unveiling their new models or prototypes of their future bets. Thus, at the Volkswagen stand we can find a concept called Beetle Dune, which showcases an off-road version of the legendary Beetle.

While its predecessor, presented at the Los Angeles Auto Show, this Beetle Dune could be very close to the definitive production model, according to the Volkswagen itself.

Among the changes made to this version, the most notable is that its bodywork has grown by about 50 mm, so that a pair of skis now fits in the rear. Aesthetically, we find a completely redesigned body, 19-inch wheels and an off-road look that recalls the Volkswagen buggies that conquered beaches and dunes in the past.

Under the bonnet lies the 210 CV engine, combined with the 6-speed DSG gearbox. This allows the Dune to reach 100 km/h in just about 7.5 seconds. To optimise its performance off the road, it has been fitted with the XDS electronic differential lock, as on the most powerful petrol Beetles.
