Changes to the engine, with more power and displacement, and new equipment are what the new Mercedes S 600 offers, which will be presented worldwide at the Detroit Motor Show. Its market launch will take place next March.

The new S 600 features 10 more horsepower, together with an increase in displacement from 5,513 to 5,980 cm3. The S 600 will for the first time incorporate the ECO start-stop function as standard and also meets the requirements of Euro 6 regulations. Although fuel consumption will matter little in this kind of V12-engined saloon, the figures reported by Mercedes are 11.1 L/100 km on the combined cycle, a significant improvement over the previous model; according to the figures, the new S 600 will be 21% more fuel-efficient than its predecessor.

There is no doubt about the quality the new S 600 will surely have. Besides being the most luxurious model, it will also receive new equipment, such as the Head-up Display, the touch panel and the Collision Prevention Assist Plus system. Among other things, the LED Intelligent Light System, the Magic Body Control running gear and the Plus driver assistance package, which consists of several electronic assistance systems, will be added.

Also new for this S 600 is the touch panel optionally available for the instrument cluster, which makes it easier to operate the central unit’s functions through finger gestures, just as with a smartphone.
