Volkswagen confirms the arrival of a new 1.0 TSI engine

Volkswagen has used the Frankfurt Motor Show held these days to announce the development of a new petrol engine, mainly intended for the Golf.
It is a small TSI engine that will complete the range of the German compact, becoming the entry-level option. It will probably extend to other models of the brand such as the Polo and the up!.
We are talking about a new three-cylinder engine, which will take its technical base from the 1.0 MPI fitted to the city cars of the VW Group, the Volkswagen up!, the Seat Mii and the Sköda Citigo.
The information points to a maximum output of 110 CV, enough to move the German star compact with ease. Later, versions with lower outputs will arrive to complete the lower price levels.
In this way, it will replace the current 1.2 TSI, which currently delivers outputs between 86 and 105 CV.

This trend towards extreme downsizing is becoming increasingly popular. Two years ago it was almost impossible to find three-cylinder engines in vehicles other than city and micro-city cars, but now you can choose from a multitude of alternatives. Ford entered the ring with the 1.0 Ecoboost, Renault also offers the new 0.9 TCe, and even the Fiat group offers a small two-cylinder TwinAir engine. Opel has also announced the arrival of a new 1.0 SIDI at the Frankfurt Motor Show, which will complete the Adam’s range.
