Volkswagen has produced its 111,111,111th unit at its Wolfsburg plant, a number that may or may not be particularly revealing (I wonder what led them to consider such a peculiar figure), but it is the tally they keep of all the models produced since 1945 at every factory of the brand.

Of all the models the brand has manufactured, the largest number of units has corresponded to the Golf, and not to the Beetle as many would have believed, followed, now yes, by the ever-present Beetle. The Passat ranks as the third model of which the most units have been sold, and the Polo comes in fourth place on the scale.

The vehicle that was fortunate enough to receive the number of the “nine ones” was a Golf GTI that left the production line on December 22. Of the Volkswagen Golf, the brand has produced about 28 million units.
