Volkswagen ID.Space Vizzion: the new electric estate arrives in Los Angeles
The Volkswagen ID.Space Vizzion has just been unveiled at the Los Angeles Auto Show with an estate body and a range of almost 600 km
The electric ID family from Volkswagen is growing ever larger. Joining the already presented Volkswagen ID.3, ID.Crozz, ID.Buzz, ID.Vizzion, ID.Buggy and ID.Roomzz is now the seventh offspring, whose official presentation has just taken place at the Los Angeles Auto Show and which has been named Volkswagen ID.Space Vizzion. This is a new family vehicle with a rather striking design and outstanding electric range.
The new Volkswagen ID.Space Vizzion comes with an 82 kWh battery pack, so the company promises a range of up to 590 kilometres. It will also feature all-wheel drive and up to 250 kW of power, which is 335 CV. With this combination, it is capable of reaching 100 km/h in 5.4 seconds.
Aerodynamics is one of the keys to the Volkswagen ID.Space Vizzion
The engineers from Wolfsburg have made the most of all the advantages that come with the electrification of the automotive industry. One of them is the freedom that this type of vehicle gives designers to create the most complex and modern shapes.
In the case of the new Volkswagen ID. Space Vizzion, the designers and engineers have taken advantage of this freedom to create a vehicle with genuinely aerodynamic shapes to optimise electric range.
At the front, air intakes have been added in the lower part of the bumper, so that the air does not collide but flows naturally towards the side ribs of the bonnet. This complex front end also directs the airflow to the lower side of the car so that it glides along it to the rear.
Technology and generous interior space
Inside, the possibilities offered by the new MEB modular platform, created specifically for the group’s electric models, have been exploited to the full. Thanks to the compact size of the electric motor and the battery pack installed low down, the car achieves interior space typical of a large saloon.
The Volkswagen ID. Space Vizzion is not only a sustainable vehicle thanks to its zero-emission nature, but it also earns that title through the materials used in its cabin. Proof of this is the use of so-called Apple Skin, an artificial leather containing residual material extracted from apple juice. In addition, no chrome trim will be used; this material will be replaced by paint that simulates the same effect.
The driving position is fully digitalised, so for the first time the most relevant information is conveyed through a display screen that uses augmented reality technology.
The instrument cluster has been replaced by a small screen that shows only the basic information. The remaining elements are grouped on a huge 15.6-inch touchscreen with a floating design.
The Volkswagen ID.Space Vizzion presented at the Los Angeles Auto Show is a concept car very close to the production model that will reach the US, European and Chinese markets at the end of 2021.
