The Volkswagen Passat is one of the best-known and best-selling models of the German brand, so it is a car that receives a lot of care and attention. It is on sale in both Europe and the United States and is valued by buyers, who remain loyal to the model across its several generations. Now, Volkswagen has announced that it will launch a new version in China, which may be a preview of the new generation arriving soon on the international market.

By using the MQB platform, like the European variant, the model gains in length. This means it now measures 4,933 millimetres, 60 mm more than its predecessor, and has a wheelbase of 2,871 millimetres. In addition, it sits on a new platform, which substantially changes its equipment and engines.

These images show that the style of the Volkswagen Passat aimed at the Chinese market has a fairly sporty silhouette while keeping an elegant touch. The Volkswagen Passat shows a clear influence from the Volkswagen Arteon, although it retains the appearance that makes the model recognisable. Among the new features are LED daytime running lights, redesigned headlights at both the front and rear, and fog lights that have been redesigned and moved up slightly.

This last point is important, as it provides more interior space and greater comfort for the occupants. The new saloon from Volkswagen aims to stand above other saloons on the Chinese market, and its equipment reflects this. The digital instrument cluster and the 10.25-inch digital display give it a more luxurious look. Technology equipment is also important in this new version of the Volkswagen Passat.

Inside, there are features such as electrically adjustable seats, dual-zone climate control, a front collision warning system, Park Assist, cruise control and, as an option, heated and ventilated seats. A range of equipment that enhances the status of this model and makes it even more appealing.

In terms of engines, it will be available with a 2.0-litre petrol engine, offered in two power levels, from 186 to 220 CV, both paired with a seven-speed DSG dual-clutch automatic gearbox. The range will be complemented by a plug-in hybrid version with a 1.4-litre TSI engine and an electric motor. The Volkswagen Passat for the Chinese market will be manufactured through the joint venture between Volkswagen and SAIC, which are working to strengthen their position in the Asian market.
