Volkswagen T-Roc: now available with new 115 CV diesel engine
The Volkswagen T-Roc gets a new 1.6 TDI diesel engine producing 115 CV, with prices starting at €25,575.
The Volkswagen T-Roc debuts a new 1.6 TDI 115 CV diesel engine. Until now, the city crossover, built on the Golf’s platform, only offered one diesel option (the 2.0 TDI with 150 CV), which was exclusive to the Sport trim and now gets a more affordable alternative for the entire range. But is this 1.6 TDI engine worth it over the 1.0 TSI 115 CV? We explain below.
Volkswagen T-Roc 1.6 TDI

The Volkswagen T-Roc 1.6 TDI 115 CV offers a combined consumption of 4.4 l/100 km and CO2 emissions of 113 g/km, which exempt it from paying the Registration Tax. The 1.6 TDI engine is paired with a six-speed manual gearbox and is only available with front-wheel drive.
1.6 TDI engine versus its alternatives

The Volkswagen T-Roc 1.6 TDI 115 CV has become the most affordable diesel option for bringing home the Volkswagen city crossover, but is this engine worth it compared to its alternatives? Here are the other options:
- 1.6 TDI 115 CV: combined consumption of 4.4 l/100 km.
- 1.0 TDI 150 CV (only available in the Sport trim): combined consumption of 5.1 l/100 km.
- 1.0 TSI 115 CV: combined consumption of 5.1 l/100 km
In terms of price and performance, the 1.0 TSI is the most direct alternative to the new 1.6 TDI in the Volkswagen T-Roc. Here are the prices of both engines in their different versions:
| Engine | Edition | Advance | Advance Style |
|---|---|---|---|
| 1.6 TDI (115 CV) | €25,575 | €27,460 | €28,060 |
| 1.0 TSI (115 CV) | €22,040 | €23,860 | €24,460 |
Looking at the most affordable trim in the range (Edition), the price difference between the 1.6 TDI and the 1.0 TSI is €3,535. Considering that performance is the same (115 CV) and consumption is similar, is the diesel engine worth it? The reality is that you will only get value from the extra cost of this engine if you drive a lot each year, especially on highways, where the diesel’s consumption shows its best performance.

Furthermore, for the Volkswagen T-Roc 1.6 TDI 115 CV’s starting price (€25,575), there are many alternatives available with better equipment, such as a T-Roc 1.5 TSI 150 CV (€25,245) or a T-Roc 1.0 TSI 115 CV Style (€24,460).
