S80 V70 Volkswagen Volvo XC60 XC70 Curiosities
Volvo and Volkswagen are sending most of their vehicles in for inspection
Inspection recalls for countless models of Volvo due to problems with the auxiliary belt tensioner, as well as for Volkswagen and derivative models fitted with the 2.0 TDI CR engine

On this occasion, both brands have shown no mercy and have just issued a call under which thousands of vehicles will have to go in for inspection. This should, in the end, be welcome news, not for the time we will be left without a vehicle, but because they are taking care of something they got wrong from the moment it was manufactured.
To be more specific, we are talking about a recall of the Volvo V70, S80, XC60 and XC70 for reasons you can read below, while on the Volkswagen side, the problem lies directly in the 2.0 TDI CR engine, an engine that has already been subject to other preventive campaigns and will have to return to the workshop once again.
– Volkswagen 2.0 TDI CR: According to a statement released by the German brand itself: “In 2.0-litre CR TDI engines, specifically and within a certain production period, there is a possibility that, over time, leaks may occur in the high-pressure pipes due to the use of defective raw material in the manufacture of these pipes. Over time and under certain operating conditions, cracks may form in the injection pipe due to resonance. The possible escape of fuel could cause a fire in the vehicle.”
As you can see, if the situation worsens enough and you don’t notice, you could find yourself involved in a situation you probably never imagined and certainly won’t enjoy experiencing. Naturally, and because Volkswagen fits this engine to the great majority of its brands, if you are affected, whatever the “manufacturer” of your vehicle, you will be contacted as soon as possible.
– Volvo V70, S80, XC60 and XC70: the problem detected lies in the service belt tensioner, a tensioner that could fail, causing your vehicle to suddenly lose power steering and even immobilising it. Unfortunately, the failure can occur without any warning to the driver. Once again, if your vehicle is among those affected, Volvo will contact you to arrange its repair.
