Volvo confirms the upcoming launch of its electric saloon, the ES90
Although almost nothing is yet known about this new electric model from Volvo, we can assume it will be the saloon version of the EX90 SUV we already know.
The most recent event from Volvo, known as the 90/90 Day, has left a bittersweet taste among fans of the Swedish brand and of electric mobility. The sour part came with Volvo’s announcement that, in the end, it will not be a fully electric brand by 2030. An announcement that, however, has been perfectly sweetened by the surprise unveiling of a teaser for the future ES90, the new-generation electric saloon at the top of Volvo’s range.
The Volvo ES90, a name that, under the new nomenclature used by Volvo, refers to an electric model -E- within the saloon segment -for the S of Sedan-, promises to be the flagship of Volvo alongside the new EX90. In fact, it seems quite likely that both models will even share the same technology.

However, this last point is no more than speculation since, officially, we know almost nothing about this new model from the Swedish manufacturer. Although the teaser released by Volvo does not reveal, as we said, many specific details about its design, everything points to this vehicle keeping some of the distinctive features of Volvo’s saloons, but with a notable evolution in its front design to improve its aerodynamics and, consequently, increase its energy efficiency.
Geely’s SEA platform –Sustainable Experience Architecture– already used in other models from Geely’s various brands, including the Polestar 4, seems the most likely candidate to serve as the basis for the new ES90. This platform is known for its modularity, allowing adaptations for a wide variety of vehicles, from the most affordable to luxury saloons. Although, once again, this is merely speculation and we will have to wait for official confirmation from the manufacturer.
It won’t be long before it reaches the market
Apart from the few technical details we have about the future ES90, Volvo has not yet revealed a planned launch date either. In any case, the brand head’s promise that this model will arrive soon has generated very positive expectations about the future of Volvo.

Interest in the ES90 lies not only in its potential as a luxury electric saloon, but also in how Volvo and Geely are positioning their products in an increasingly competitive market geared towards sustainability. With this teaser, Volvo has managed to keep the suspense going while preparing the ground for what could be one of the most anticipated electric saloons of the next generation of electric vehicles.
In this way, Volvo not only reinforces its position regarding electrification, but also its commitment to innovation and the distinctive design that has characterised the brand.
