Volvo gets fired up: its electric truck will arrive before Tesla's
Although Tesla’s Semi Truck has already begun testing, Volvo will sell an electric truck in Europe in 2019, before Elon Musk does

The race to be the first to present electric alternatives to traditional vehicles seems more alive than ever. Tesla is one of the pioneers, although we know that the rush to launch new vehicles without foresight can put them in a tight spot. Not long ago we saw how the American manufacturer was preparing the Semi Truck, a 100% electric truck that aims to revolutionise the emission-free freight transport market. With this model, significant progress will be made in electric mobility, which is why it has become a rival to beat for other brands.
Volvo has just announced that within a little over a year it will begin selling a 100% electric truck on the European market, capable of running without producing polluting emissions and improving the quality of life for city dwellers, according to the company. Once it launches in Europe, the United States will be the next market where this electric model can be enjoyed, so it could be a serious competitor to Tesla’s model. Above all, because it will arrive well before Elon Musk’s model.

Volvo has spent years working on hybrid truck models, so it has a model of these characteristics ready, which is the one we can see in the images. There is still no information about the purely electric model, so we will have to wait a little to learn its features and discover what the Swedish manufacturer has in store. For them, using an electric truck not only represents a technological advance, but will also allow them to operate in urban areas and environmentally protected zones, such as large city centres, which increasingly have more restrictions for diesel vehicles.

Electric trucks will be quieter, which makes them ideal for those urban environments and also offers advantages in terms of when they can operate. With less noise, they can run at night and be more efficient. Volvo wants to keep going down this path and offer more electrified solutions for freight transport, something that seems set to become a tangible reality in an increasingly near future. Will we see it really soon?
