Volvo has a new goal: by 2025, half of its sales will be fully electric vehicles
Volvo is very clear about this and aims for half of its sales by 2025 to be 100% electric vehicles, which will arrive next year.

Electrification of the motoring world is something we are already experiencing today, but in the not-so-distant future, it will be a perfectly established mechanism. Volvo has always been characterized by a broad technological arsenal in its vehicles, and using batteries as the lifeblood of its vehicles is an option the Swedish firm intends to apply. The year 2025 will be a key date for the brand, as its goal is that by then, 50% of its sales will be represented by 100% electric models.
Last year the brand announced to the world that, starting in 2019, all of its models would offer a mild hybrid, plug-in hybrid and pure electric variant. Barely a year after that announcement, Volvo already has a broad arsenal of models that rely on hybridization as a way of life, something that will be complemented by the 100% electric motors we will see before long.
With this premise, the Swedish firm has set itself the goal of having half of its sales correspond to electric-powered models, with the intention of promoting this type of energy source and improving the quality of the environment. At the same time, Volvo has its sights set on China, a market where its models are very well received, as well as the most avant-garde and cutting-edge technology.

Volvo has just begun manufacturing the XC60 T8 in China, a vehicle that shares an assembly line with the S90 and S90L, a sign that the firm will very soon apply new measures to kick off production of hybrid and 100% electric models. This type of mechanism will be applied to all vehicles in the Volvo range, which also affects the newly launched XC40.
The brand’s smallest SUV has been very well accepted not only in China, but also worldwide. However, Volvo has chosen the Beijing Motor Show to unveil the T5 plug-in hybrid powertrain that will bring the XC40 to life. Just as this happens with the most recent model from Volvo, we will also see it applied not only to SUVs but also to the various saloons that are gradually being included in the brand.
“Last year we committed to electrification as preparation for the era after the internal combustion engine,” says Håkan Samuelsson, president and CEO of Volvo Cars. “Today we announce our intention to strengthen and expand this commitment in the world’s largest market for electric vehicles. China’s electric future is Volvo Cars’ electric future.”

Without a doubt, Volvo has at its fingertips the latest technology in both safety and engines and next year we will see how the firm applies that power to its vehicles. Very soon we will learn the most electric side of Volvo, which will be shown across all and every one of the segments that bring the brand to life.
