Volvo unveils two new versions of the S90
The Swedish brand has unveiled an improved version of the S90 for China and another called Excellence with a more luxurious approach.
The Chinese car group Geely has been very busy in recent days. Link & Co, the brand newly created by the group, presented its first model adapted to the new digital era a week ago (link). Now it is the turn of Volvo (its other label) to reveal its latest news. On the eve of the Guangzhou Auto Show, the Swedish brand has unveiled an updated version of the Volvo S90 and a new model with a more luxurious approach called Excellence.

Both versions remain almost unchanged in design, but they introduce a series of standard safety systems such as large animal detection (City Safety system), Pilot Assist, and the semi-autonomous driving system that works up to 130 km/h.
Regarding engines, the new S90 will be available with the T4 (190 CV) and T5 (254 CV) petrol engines and the prestigious T8 Twin Engine plug-in hybrid from Volvo Cars. The S90 Excellence will be offered only with the T8 Twin Engine.
Unlike the new S90, the Excellence version incorporates several elements to improve comfort and luxury during journeys: a fully panoramic roof, folding tables, an intelligent storage compartment, cup holders that heat and cool drinks, an adjustable footrest, an integrated fridge and crystal glasses handmade by the Swedish crystal factory Orrefors.

The technological aspect seems to be of great importance for the brands of the Geely group. The new Excellence model features an integrated imaging system with a large screen for work or entertainment. It also includes a control interface with a touchscreen in the rear seat.

Production of the new S90 will begin in November, while the S90 Excellence will follow next year. Both versions will be manufactured in Daqing (China), from where they will be exported to the rest of the world. In this way, the Chinese group confirms its interest in manufacturing its vehicles at home. “China will play an increasingly important role in our global manufacturing objectives. Our factories in this country will export top-quality products to the whole world in the coming years, allowing us to achieve our goal of selling 800,000 vehicles a year by 2020,” says Håkan Samuelsson, president and CEO of the Volvo Car group.
